Reason for the site

Mark Hadsall, has been on the lung transplant list since 2004. He went to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis MO at that time to see about getting a lung transplant. The reason he is going here is it is the closest hospital that does lung transplants. He was placed on the list at that time and had to wait 2 years, working his way to the top. He did this and Barnes called him and asked if he was ready to come back to have the re-qualifying tests done for the transplant but then informed him at that time they changed how the list is handled. They now go by who is in more need. He told them that he didn't feel like he was sick enough at that time to need it and passed it up but they told him he would remain on the list until he felt he was ready.

In June of 2008, he went back out to have the tests done and the doctors told him that he was still not sick enough. The lung function tests they did while he was there showed his lung capacity was at 27% and they wanted the recipients to be around 20% and hospitalized many times with-in a year.

Since June of 2009, he has been in the hospital 6 times, 5 times since Christmas. The last lung function test he had done in February of this year, it was between 18 - 20%. His doctors sent his reports from these tests and his hospital reports to Barnes so he can get the transplant. He went in April and had the re-qualifying tests done and they said he was ok, or sick enough to go ahead with the transplant. He then had to go back the 7th of June to have the pre-op class and a few more tests. He has to be completely moved to St. Louis before he can have the post-op class and then he will be activated on the list and just wait to be called!

He is now trying to raise money to relocate, get a place to live and to help supliment his income until after he has the transplant and is well enough to come back home and go back to work. They said this could take a year to two.

He and his family are asking if you have a spare penny to please donate. The money will be used to get moved to St. Louis and to help supliment his disability income. All this expense is on him. He is on disability and is unable to afford much at all. He still has to pay all his other living expenses as well.
